The FotoFreo Newsletter comes to you this month from our fabulous new office in Fremantle. With thanks to funding from The City of Fremantle and Eventscorp we have moved out of the back yard and into the bustle of central Freo. Winter rains are keeping the FotoFreo team busy inside where we are confirming artists and venues and preparing for the festival program launch in October. At the top of our list FotoFreo is thrilled to announce an exciting development to our partnership with Magnum Photos. For the first time in Australia, we will host three Magnum photographers who will run 5 day workshops in Fremantle during the opening week of the 2010 festival. The Magnum Workshop FotoFreo is a 5 day intensive, practice oriented workshop that seeks to provide personal photographic growth in an intimate and intensive environment. Each of the five-day workshops will be led by an accomplished Magnum Photographer and will have a maximum of 12 participants. The workshops present an outstanding opportunity for photographers to explore their own work on a new level and build relationships with some of today’s most celebrated photographic artists.

The closing date for applications for the FotoFreo 2010 Fringe 31 August 2009 is fast approaching. To be listed in the main festival program applications must be received by this date. Participants in the Fringe will be announced at the festival launch in October.

The FotoFreo Fringe Festival is a series of independent photographic exhibitions throughout Fremantle and Perth during FotoFreo. It is an ideal opportunity for photographers to showcase their work alongside the curated core shows and for visitors to view new photographic works by emerging and established photographers.

Fringe organisers are able to help photographers, particularly those of you applying from interstate or overseas, to source venues for their exhibition. Don’t hesitate to contact Fringe Coordinator Seng Mah for assistance and advice with finding a venue.

Sponsorship Opportunities

FotoFreo gratefully acknowledges the invaluable financial support we receive from all our sponsors and partners and is now seeking sponsors for the 2010 festival and events. With more than 68,000 local and international visitors in 2008 and extensive media coverage locally, nationally and internationally FotoFreo provides an excellent opportunity for exposure to a passionate art appreciating community. In addition, The City of Fremantle and Eventscorp have agreed to provide significant support for 2010 festival programmes and assist with comprehensive national and international marketing of the event to substantially develop our audience.

Sponsorship is flexible and possible at various levels. Arrangements are developed with partners to achieve a mutually beneficial outcome. Please contact Laura Beilby for more information about sponsorship and benefaction opportunities.
