Issue 8: March 2010
The first few hectic weeks of FotoFreo 2010 are over and most of our interstate and international guests have departed. However, the exhibitions are still open for another 2 weeks until April 18 and there is a lot to see!
Here are a few of the festival highlights so far:

The opening of the FotoFreo 2010 festival was enjoyed by more than 900 guests on a beautiful and warm autumn evening at the Fremantle Arts Centre on Friday March 19. After a welcome by the Mayor of Fremantle, Dr Brad Pettit, and some encouraging words from David van Ooran, Director of Eventscorp, Gary Dufour, Chief Curator & Deputy Director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia declared the Festival open. Guests enjoyed a preview projection from the 2010 exhibitions and were able to view Another Story: Chinese Contemporary Photography; Magda Stanova, In the Shadow of Photography; Joy Horwood Cooke, A Vision of Africa.
The evening culminated with a projection of work by the students of the Magnum Workshop Fremantle.

Somebody asked me the other day if the volunteers this festival were
all helpful, good people.
I have to say that anybody who unselfishly gives their time and
energy to help a community project is better than good.
We have 106 active volunteers this festival.
19 of those giving between 10 and 20 hours
16 giving between 20 and 30 hours
15 giving more than 30 hours
This festival is based and run on Volunteer power and has only been
successful because of those fabulous volunteers.
Now that the rush is over, we are in workshop and gallery sitting
mode for the next 2 weeks and then the de-installation begins.
The current gallery sitting roster still has many gaps to fill and
the de-installation teams will need to be formed in the next week or so.

If you have some time to give please email Elizabeth McCaig.
There will of course be a volunteer wind up to look forward to, where we will be handing out certificates and prizes from Nikon and Crumpler to our hardworking volunteers.
Hope to see you all there.
