An Afternoon with Tim Page, Marianne Harris & Michael Coyne
Sunday 26th March, 2pm

Tim Page (27 KB)Tim Page

Legendary war photographer Tim Page recounts his life and experiences as a photojournalist and iconic photographer of the Vietnam War. Wounded four times, and recipient of the prestigious The Robert Capa Gold Medal Award for, "the best photographic reporting from abroad requiring exceptional courage and enterprise", Page’s life is a fascinating story of survival and resilience.

Page went everywhere and covered everything. He found himself in Vietnam photographing the first and last war with no censorship. In 1967 he covered the Six Day War in the Middle East. His images were used by Time-Life, Paris Match, UPI and AP. Wounded four times; Page is the recipient of 10 Awards, subject of many documentaries, two films and author of nine books.

"Ultimately any good war photograph becomes anti-war. Only from a distance, or through the sanitizing filter of television, does war take on the majesty of ballet; up close it hurts and smells of death. War is against all things human – ask anyone who has been there." Tim Page.

Beyond Words - Photographers of War
Saturday 1st April, 2pm

Beyond Words is a film that focuses on the world's top war photojournalists, and attempts to turn the lens of attention onto them. Many have been wounded. Some have seen colleagues die. All have been scarred by what they do: some become disillusioned, even ashamed of what they do, and leave the profession because they feel it's pornographic. Yet some remain charged by the excitement of it, and others committed to the idea that where there are no images, there is no sense of history.

Venue: FTI theatre. Please note that seating is limited
Cost: $10
